Biography

Frederick Dykeman (or Dikeman/Dyckman) was born in 1711. He was Christened in the Reformed Dutch Church at Hackensack, New Jersey, on June 17, 1711. [Source #4] His sponsors were David Ackerman, Jr., and wife Gerrebregt. During the American Revolution many records were destroyed, leaving few records of his life. He grew up in Hackensack and in Rye, New York, and was 15 when his father bought land in Norwalk, Connecticut. In 1737 he was living in Fairfield, possibly in Redding where church records show him present in 1743, 1744 and 1766. Frederick married (possibly) Ann Sturges before 1744, with whom he had at least three children. He died after 1762 in Redding, Fairfield County, Connecticut. There was a man named Frederick Dykeman counted on the census in Redding in 1790, which could have been him or possibly a son.

Children

Frederick Dyckman & Anne Sturges were the parents of my ancestor,

  • Mary Dikeman, baptized at Redding, June 3, 1744.

  • Anne Dikeman, baptized at Redding, Nov. 27, 1746.
