Biography
The Frost Genealogy, gives his name as "Sir John Edward Underhill", also called "Hot Gospeller". Source states he was a son of William of Wolverhampton, England. William's father was Nathaniel, born 1324. Nathaniel's father was John, born 1284, and John was son of Timotheus Underhill.
From "Colonial Families of the United States of America", Vol. VII, p. 463:
This line begins with Timotheus Underhill, b. in Yorkshire, England in 1248.
Edward Underhill, "the Hot Gospeller," gd. father of Capt. John Underhill, was b. 1512; d. 1576; was Gentleman-in-Waiting to Queen Mary and to Queen Elizabeth of England; Gentleman Pensioner; Man at Arms under Sir Richard Cromwell, who was Captain of the Horsemen in the contingent sent to assist the Emperor in the siege of Londreci Hainault. One of the 200 men who attended upon King Henry when he went to Boulougne. Went to France again on military service under the Earl of Huntington to check the French, who were aiming at recapture of Boulougne".
