Biography

Hannah Hawes was born on February 1, 1655, in Dedham, Massachusetts Bay Colony. (It was the 1st day of the 12th month, 1654, in Old Style). She married on January 5, 1676/7, to John Mason, in her hometown. (5th day of the 11th month O.S.)

John and Hannah had several children. She was mentioned in her father's will, probated December 17, 1689. Her husband died in 1698 and with her son, John, she deeded land to Nathaniel Arnold in 1708. In April of 1727, when her son Jonathan Mason deeded land to John Austin, it was under the condition that his mother, Hannah Mason, be granted use of one-third of the land for the remainder of her life. She died sometime before 1833, probably in Hartford, Connecticut.
