Biography

Dr. Henry Woodward was born March 22, 1607, in Worton, Wiltshire, England. He was a physician and came to American on the ship "James" in the summer of 1635. He settled first in Dorchester, Massachusetts. In 1639 he moved to Northampton, Massachusetts. He married Elizabeth Johnson before 1642 and died on April 7, 1685, in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, when he was struck and killed by a grist mill wheel. He was 78 years old. He is the father of Freedom Woodward who married Jedediah Strong.
