Biography

Israel Underhill was born before 1755 in Westchester County, New York and died abt. 1811 in Newburgh, Orange County, New York. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Garrison. He served as Ensign in the 3rd Reg. of New York Militia and was counted on the census in Yorktown, New York, (formerly called Cortlandt Manor) in 1790. In 1800, he was living in Hurley, Ulster County, New York, and in 1810, he was in Newburgh, Orange County, New York. He died before 1820.

Israel Underhill & Elizabeth Garrison were the parents of my ancestor,

  • John Underhill, b. abt. 1780, d. 1851, married Sarah Barnhart.
  • Elizabeth Underhill, b. 1780, d. 1861, married Leonard Cole.
  • Garrison Underhill, b. abt. 1784, married Zillah Underhill.
  • Israel Underhill, b. abt. 1787.
  • Bartow Underhill, b. abt. 1790.
  • Robert R. Underhill, b. abt. 1793, married Ann Bloomer.
