Biography
Jacob Shaner was born in Germany about 1776. He married Mary Stockner. He arrived in America about 1795 and died between 1850 and 1870 in Pennsylvania. Two sons are known: Jacob and Philip Shaner. The name of his father may have been Adam Shaner, who was born in 1750 in Germany, and died in 1810 in Pennsylvania. Adam's parents are said to have been Matthias Shaner (or Schoener) and Sophronia Fanny Poe. Matthias was reportedly born in Strasbourg, Alsace, Lorraine, France.
Note: Shaner is the Americanized spelling of the German name Schoener, also spelled Schӧner or Schӧnherr, Schoenherr, or the Americanized spelling of the Jewish name Scheiner.

Jacob and Mary had 13 children.
- a daughter named Sarah, who married a Young,
- a female born between 1805 - 1810,
- a second female born between 1805 - 1810,
- John, who was born about 1808 and married a Catherine,
- Adam was born in 1813 and appears in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 Wolf Twp census. He married a Hannah and moved to Elkhart, Indiana.
- Phillip who was born on March 14 1814 in Lycoming County and died in 1905 in Illinois. He married Melinda Jackson on January 18, 1835 in Cattaraugus Co NY. She was born in 1818 in PA. (Click here for published biography).
