Biography

James Sherman was born about 1840 in Moravia, New York. In 1865, at the age of 23, he was a "farmer soldier" living in the Perigo home. The column for "in the army now" is checked.

Additional research is needed to learn James' military experience. There are a few records for "James Sherman" in NY, briefly enumerated here.

James married Amy Dow (or McDowell) between 1865 and 1868 and they lived in Ledyard, Cayuga County, New York, in 1870 and 1880. Amy died abt. 1886.
