Biography
John Shirley was the son of Bradford Shirley, Sr., and Parthenia Stanton. He was born in March of 1822, in Lisle, Broome County, New York. John married Esther A. Ensign on the 31st of December, 1844, in Lisle, Broome County, New York. They lived in Richford, Tioga County, New York, until Esther died in 1864. Their son, Dura Bradford Shirley, enlisted to fight in the Civil War, (Co. M, 1st N.Y. Cavalry). In 1865, John was living on the farm of Ezra & Damaris Rood. John soon after married a woman named Elizabeth, who he was living with in Cortland by 1870 and remained there until she died on August 9, 1886. He remained there until at least 1892, and in 1900, he was living in Harford. He died at the home of John Adams in Sempronius at the age of 80, on the 31st of January, 1903.
