Biography

Lydia Mayo was believed to have been born on June 10, 1872 in Terry, Bradford, Pennsylvania, but in subsequent records and on her gravestone, her birth year is given as 1873. When the census was taken on June 12, 1880, Lydia was living with her parents in Terry, Bradford, Pennsylvania. Her age was given as 8 years old.

Lydia married Halloway L. Ames, son of Lorenzo and Priscilla Ames, on February 13, 1893, in Scranton. Together, they had one daughter, Olive May Ames, and lived in Scranton together for a short time. About 1896, Lydia left Ames and married Charles Decker, who supposedly resided in Edwardsville (or Edwardsdale) at the time. They were said to have been married quickly and on January 19, 1897, their daughter, Delaphine Decker, was born in Port Jervis, New York. In 1900, they were living in Warwick, Orange County, New York. Warwick is 80 miles east of Scranton. Charles died in 1909 in Walden, New York, and in 1910 and 1915, Lydia was still living in Warwick. In 1915, Lydia married Abram Lott. The following year, Lott was sentenced to 30 days in jail for deserting the family. In 1940, Lydia was living alone in Hamburg, New Jersey. She died in 1951 and is buried in North Hardyston Cemetery in Hamburg, New Jersey. Abram Lott died in 1956 and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Matamora, Pike County, Pennsylvania.
