Biography

Samuel Rider (or Ryder, or Reider) was the son of Johannes Reider and Anna Maria Carl. He was born abt. 1758, and died abt. 1850 at the estimated age of about 92 years. Revolutionary War muster rolls show Samuel Reider served with Captain John Ludwig's Company, of the Sixth Battalion, Berks County Militia, Commanded by Col. Joseph Hiester, in the service of the United States, from August 10, 1780, to September 9, 1780, guarding the Hessian prisoners. He married before 1784, although the name of his wife has yet to be found. In 1784, his son, John Reider, was born in Longswamp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Samuel's siblings were George, Frederick, and Johannes.
