Biography

Squire Boone, Sr. was born in Bradnich, Exeter, Devonshire, England, on November 25, 1696. He was a son of George Boone III and Mary Milton Maugridge. He belonged to the Religious Society of Friends, also known as Quakers. They dissented from the Church of England and were persecuted for their beliefs. As a result, he and his brother, George, and sister, Sarah, went to America ahead of their parents in 1713, joining William Penn's colony. He was a weaver and a blacksmith. His parents arrived in Pennsylvania in 1717. Squire married Sarah Morgan on July 23, 1720 at the Gwynedd Meeting of Quakers, Berks County, Pennsylvania, which was part of Philadelphia County at the time and is now in Montgomery County. They lived in Exeter, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Squire and Sarah had 12 or more children including my ancestor, Jonathan Boone, and the famous pioneer, Daniel Boone. See my video tour here and learn more about the Daniel Boone Homestead on Wikipedia.

Children

Squire Boone Sr & Sarah Morgan were the parents of my ancestor,

  1. Sarah Boone (1724-1815), married John Wilcoxson, a "Worldling" (non-Quaker), the first offense of a few which led to the family severing their fellowship with the Friends/Quakers. Sarah and John Wilcoxson (or Wilcockson) had 11 children.

  2. Israel Boone (1726-1756), also married a "Worldling" in 1747, causing both him and his father to be expelled from the Quakers.

  3. Samuel Boone (1728-1808)

  4. Jonathan (1730-1808)

  5. Elizabeth Boone (1733-1814), married William Grant and had nine or more children.

  6. Daniel Boone, famous pioneer (1734-1820)

  7. Mary Boone (1736-1819), married William Bryan and had nine or more children.

  8. George W. Boone (1736-1820)

  9. Edward Boone (1740-1780), also known as "Ned Boone".

  10. Nathaniel Boone (1722-1723)

  11. Squire Boone Jr., (1744-1815)

  12. Hannah Boone (1746-1828) married twice: John Stewart and Richard Pennington and had three or more children with each.
