Biography

Abigail Gardiner was born on September 24, 1700. She was the daughter of William Gardiner. She married Caleb Hazard on November 19, 1719, and together they had four sons between 1721 and 1726, before Caleb died. Abigail married 2nd to the Deputy-Governor of Rhode Island, William Robinson, son of Rowland Robinson and Mary Allen. He was a large landholder, buying nearly four thousand acres of land. With Robinson she had six children, in addition to the three sons which survived from her union with Caleb Hazard. Including the son that died, she bore ten children. When her father died, she inherited one hundred pounds "to be laid out in plate to be marked with his name and his wife's". She was also named in her mother's will, in 1763. Abigail died in 1773. Her genealogy is well documented on pages 29-31 of Robinson’s 1919 book, “The Gardiners of Narragansett”.
