Biography
Amy McDowell was living in Ledyard, Cayuga County, New York, in 1850, presumably with her parents, Cryonce and Mary McDowel. The family was in the same place in 1840. She married first to Justin Chestine Trim, a soldier of the Civil War, who died at age 25 on Feb. 14, 1864, leaving Amy with at least four young children. She married soon after to James Sherman, with whom she had at least six more children.
The New York Death index gives her named as Amy M. Sherman and her daughter Carrie's social security reports her her mother's name was Amy McDowell.
