Biography
Caleb Hazard was the son of George Hazard and Penelope Arnold. He was born on the 24th of November, 1697, in Rhode Island. He married Abigail Gardiner on the 19th of November, 1719. Their son William was born in 1721, Robert was born in 1723, and Caleb was born in 1724 but “died young”. Caleb (the father), died on the 15th of January, 1726, at the young age of 28, at Narragansett, Rhode Island. His wife must have been in the early stages of pregnancy with their fourth child, who was born on the 22nd of September, 1726, and was also named Caleb. According to Robinson’s book:
“His father gave to him by deed one hundred and fifty acres, ‘land that I bought of George Whitman, bounded South on land of said Whitman, West on highway, North on land of William Congdon, East on Point Judith Ponds.’ This was the farm now owned by Elisha F. Watson. It was on this farm that Caleb was buried. If one can judge by the size of his grave, physically he could have been no exception to the Hazards of that day.”
