Biography
Elias "Elie" Shevalier (or Chevalier), was a native of France. He was born on the island of Jersey in the English Channel, between France and England. He came to America as a teen after his parents died. He offered himself as an indentured servant to pay for his passage, working his way to freedom. He was noted for his quality apple cider, perhaps importing the seeds from Jersey, a place also known for its quality cider.
Elias was married three times. On May 1, 1735, he married Mary Cady Adams in Pomfret, Windham, Connecticut. In 1771, he married Keziah Benson (or Keziah Maxim) in Sharon, Connecticut, and around 1791, he married to a woman named Abigail.
