Biography

Elizabeth W. Jenks, better known as Betsy, was born on August 30, 1797, in New York and married Thomas Jacobs and had several children including Rachel, Henry, James, John, and Eli Jacobs. Betsy died on July 11, 1866, at the age of 68. She is buried in Upper Fairfield Cemetery in Candor, Tioga County, New York.

It seems likely that she was a relative of three brothers who came from Massachusetts in 1797. They were Michael, Laban and Elisha Jenks who established Jenksville, a hamlet in Newark Valley. Michael had two sons, Michael and Otis. See sources, Our County and Its People: A Memorial History of Tioga County, New York.
