Biography
John Abbe was born in 1612 in Northamptonshire, England. He married Mary Loring and died in Massachusetts abt. 1689. "John Abbe, who emigrated from Norfolk County, England, to American in the ship Bonaventure in 1635, and settled in Salem, Mass., where he had land granted him in 1636, and in Wheham in 1642." (Errata, Stocking's History).
The Abbe name is listed in Bardsley’s “English Surnames” as a “Surname of Office”. Ralph le Abbe appears in the Calendarium Rotulorum Patentium in Turri Londinensi. The name is found in old records spelled Abbe, Abbee, Abbei, Abbie, Abbye, and Abby.”
