Biography

Nathaniel's will is published in Early Wills of Westchester County. He left his furniture and 25-pounds per annum to his wife, all houses and lands in Westchester to his son Israel, and to his son, Bartow 300-pounds. He also instructed his son, Israel to allot 4 rods square of his land for a family burying ground.

 

He died in Williamsbridge, which is a neighborhood in the Bronx, which was in Westchester County as late as 1895. (See Sanborn Insurance Map).

 

Note: Underhill Genealogy, Vol II, p. 87, reports his wife was Mary Hunt, born July 22, 1692, daughter of John and Grace (Fowler) Hunt. They were married April 19, 1711.

  4. Mary Underhill, born Jan. 2, 1720, married Dr. Nicholas Bayley.
  5. Nathaniel Underhill, born Aug. 31, 1723.
  6. Bartow Underhill (1725-1787) [Link]
  7. William Underhill, born Feb. 16, 1727.
  8. Helena Underhill, born Jan. 26, 1729, married James Morgan.
  9. Israel Underhill, born Sept. 10, 1732, married Abigail Lespensard (1739-1806) in 1761. He was Ensign in the 3rd Regiment, New York Militia, 1779.
  10. Elizabeth Underhill, born Feb. 17, 1735, married ___ Drake and had two sons Gilbert and Nathaniel Drake and two daughters Elizabeth and Frances Drake.
