Biography

Lieut. Robert Webster, Sr., was baptized on November 17, 1619, at Cossington, Charnwood Borough, Leicestershire, England. (According to one source, he was born in 1627?)

He came to New England with his father, who became Governor John Webster. Robert spent his early life in Hartford and in 1650 became a pioneer settler of Middletown, Connecticut, where in 1651 he was chosen as recorder. He returned to Hartford around 1662 and was among the first members of the Second Church. He was made freeman in 1669 and worked to arrange defenses for Hartford in 1675.

He married Susanna Treat and died in 1676 in Hartford, Connecticut, at the age of 56 or 57. He was buried in the Ancient Burying Ground in Hartford on June 2, 1676.
