Biography

William Wadsworth was born between 1595 and 1601 in England and sailed to Massachusetts Bay on the "Lyon" or "Lion", arriving in Boston on September 16, 1632. He settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He went with Thomas Hooker's company to Hartford, Connecticut, in June of 1636. There he was an active member of the community, serving as Selectman from 1640 to 1672/3. He also served as commissioner in 1660 and 1662/3 and as list and rate maker in 1662/3 and 1667/8. He was chosen representative (deputy of the General Court) nearly every year from 1657 until his death in 1675. His will was dated May 16, 1675, and inventory of his estate was taken on October 16, 1675. He is buried in the Ancient Burying Ground in Hartford. He married first to Sarah Talcott in 1626 and second to Elizabeth Stone on July 2, 1644.
