Genealogy resources for Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut
Fairfield, formerly called Unquowa, was settled in 1639 for the Colony of Connecticut. One of the colony's founders, Roger Ludlow, helped to purchase and charter Fairfield, along with Norwalk in 1640. Ludlow is said to have also named Fairfield in 1645. The First Congregational Church of Fairfield was organized in 1650. The church at Greenfield Hill in Fairfield was organized May 18, 1726. Several towns have since been formed from Fairfield including: Redding (in 1767), Weston (in 1787), Easton (in 1845), Bridgeport (in 1821), and Westport (in 1835).
