Genealogy resources for Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut
Stamford was purchased and settled under New Haven's jurisdiction in 1640, but wasn't named until April, 1642. The First Congregational Church of Stamford was organized in May, 1641. Episcopal services were held at Stamford as early as 1726-7, but the records of St. John's Episcopal Church don't begin until April 15, 1754. New Canaan was formed from part of Stamford in 1801, and Darien followed in May, 1820.
