The locality of Killingworth was first settled by colonists in March of 1663, and was called the "Homonoscet Plantation" at Kenilworth. In May of 1667, the named was changed to Killingworth. The First Church was organized in 1667 and is now located in Clinton. The Second Church, formed for the most part of members from the First Church, was organized January 18, 1738.
