The first settlers landed at New Haven on April 15, 1638, but it wasn't named until August, 1640. The first Congregational Church in New Haven was formed in 1639. The second church was the North Congregational Church, or the United Society, which was organized May 7, 1742, as the "Church of Christ in White Haven Society".
