Fairfield was settled in 1639 and was named in 1645. Of the several Congregational churches in old Fairfield, the one located at Green's Farms (now Westport) was organized in 1715. The settlers arrived in 1693, when it was briefly called "Bankside". The name was officially changed to Green's Farm in 1732, and finally, in 1835, it was incorporated as the Town of Westport.
