Brooklyn's Congregational Church and Society was formed from the Canterbury, Pomfret, and Mortlake congregations in 1736, with Rev. Ephraim Avery as the first pastor. The town was formed in 1752 and incorporated in May, 1786. Trinity Episcopal Church dates from 1769, although the church wasn't built until 1771.
