My name is Arlene Reese Wooten my line goes back to my 3rd great grand father Martin Reese, he was born in 1802 in (the 1850 census that he was born in Virginia) but I think he was born in Tennessee. He was in the 1820 & 1825 tax listing in Jefferson County, TN. Martin Reese got married to Elizabeth Buttry on April 9, 1822 in Jefferson Co. TN. In the 1830 census they were listed in Claiborne Co. TN, and in 1840 Census they were listed in Hamilton Co. TN. They moved to DeKalb Co. Alabama in about 1843, they were on the 1850 in census in DeKalb CO. AL. Martin bought land in Lebanon, DeKalb CO. AL on Jan 1, 1859 and he died after that, He wasn't listed on the 1860 census, but his family was. Now I had my daddy's first cousin on the Reese line, and my half brother to do the Y-111 DNA for the Reese line, There was a match on ancestry, Wade R. Hawkins, he was 10 steps away from my cousin and brother., but he went all the way back to Rev David AP Rees born 1680 and died 1724. So I went back to this line and came backward to find my Martin Reese. I started with Rev David AP Rees and went to his son David Tasker Reese to his son James Polk Reese to his son George Monroe Reese. (Now whats so funny my is thats my grandfathers name) Now George Monroe Reese born 1779 born Mecklenburg Co. North Carolina, and died 1846 in Sumpter, Trinity Co. Texas. He married Mary Polk in 1800 in Mauary Co. Tn. and on the family list it said the first child was born in 1806. Now all their children was born in Maury County, TN after is wife died in 1840 , he moved to Texas with his son and died there. I think that this is my Martin Reese 's line, but I don't know how to find out how to go about that. Could you please help me.
My email is awooten @farmerstel.com. Thanks for your help. Arlene

Thanks for posting this great and knowledgeable post which I really liked.
Thank you for your reply.....The Rees name sure gets mixed up with Rees and Reese, people still try to put an e on the end of my name. Even pronounce it incorrectly according to my Grandmother.........she said it was to be pronounced Rees, like Bees. It's evening and bed time but tomorrow I am going to look up the site you have given and see what it says. Yes, on my fathers father side they were loyalists and on my fathers mother side they were revolutionists. I have three ancestors from the revolutionary war, John Crosier, William Frissell and a Goldwaith................ Thanking you, Joan
My name is Joan Rees-Murray. I happened on this looking up Daniel Rees. My great grandfather was Nelson Rees, my grandfather Edward Henry Rees, my father Edward Nelson Rees. My fathers uncles Niles, Dewitt,Florence and Theodore. They came from Yarmouth Ontario canada prior to civil war. My father was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Florence was a poet and entertainer, Theodore was a sailor on the ship that laid the Atlantic cable and died in an ship explosion on the lakes. I came looking for Daniel Rees and the Wyoming Valley Massacre. We had a grant I think it was in the name of Daniel Rees from the king of England, George if I;m correct. It was parchment with a rawhide string and attached to that a large wax seal. I remember taking it to school. We lived in Florida, I don't know what became of it, perhaps the elements took it. (I'm 87). I would love to hear from someone if they knew anything about this area of my Rees family. My father was born in 1897, my grandmother in 1866. Thank you for listening and maybe helping to open the Rees family to me. Joan...p.s. I don't know if this is going through, I don't know if I signed up correctly.........so if anyone is out there............I'm here.....thanks
