Justin b. 1763, and a 3rd great-grandson of John Leonard of Springfield. Justin had served as a Private and Musician in several enlistments in the American Revolution from 1779-1780, when he was 16-17 years old. Justin married Theodosia in 1789 in West Springfield and had five known children: John (b. 1790, married Lucy Ely Day in 1814), Martha (b. 1793, married Sylvanus Griswold in 1813 but he died in 1818. She then married Timothy Barker in 1827 and lived in Connecticut by 1830), Justin (1799-1851, was found living with his mother in Moravia in 1850 “idiotic”, he died a year later), Asaph D. (1801-1846), and Christopher (1806-1846). They were living in West Springfield in 1820, as was Asaph. Justin was still living in West Springfield in 1830. There were 6 people in the household: a male age 20-29 (Christopher?), a male age 30-39 (Justin), and a male age 60-69 (Justin Sr.). There was one female under 5 (?), one female 40-49 (cannot be Martha), and one female 60-69 (Theodosia).
Theodosia and her son, Justin (Jr) were living in Moravia, Cayuga, New York, at the time of the 1850 census. She was 84 and Justin was 51. A seven year old boy named James N. Leonard also lived in the home. Justin Jr died the following year, in 1851, so it appears Theodosia left New York soon after, because she reportedly died in Branford, New Haven County, Connecticut, on Oct. 11, 1855. She is buried in Damascus Cemetery in Branford, in a beautiful plot with her daughter Martha (Leonard) Barker (1793-1865), Timothy Barker, and Martha Barker, presumably Theodosia's granddaughter.
