Charles E. Leonard was living in Montezuma, Cayuga County, New York in 1860. His wife, Mary Louisa DOUGLAS was reported as age 42, matching her birth date of 22 Apr 1818. (She was the daughter of Harvey DOUGLAS mentioned in Charles Henry James Douglas’ 1879 book entitled, “David Douglas & His Descendants”. Others in the household in 1860, presumed to be children were:  Elijah (17), Augusta (16), Isaac (14), Emma (10), Willis (7), Charles (5), Edson (3), and Sarah (1). He was living next door to James H. LEONARD (age 60, born NJ) and It appears that sometime before 1864, Charles and Mary moved to Groton, Tompkins, New York because their son, Isaac, who died in 1864 at the age of 18 from injuries received during his service in the Civil War, was buried at the Old Clark Street Extension Cemetery in Groton. His children with Mary are believed to be: Elijah T. (b. 1843), Augusta (b. aft. 1844), Isaac (1846-1864), Emma (b. abt. 1850), Willis (b. abt. 1853), Charles (b. abt. 1855), Edson (b. abt. 1857), Sarah (b. abt. 1859), Franklin (b. abt. 1861), and Elizabeth (b. abt. 1862).  Charles may be buried at Sebring Cemetery (dates unknown).
