Asa Leonard (1759-1836) of Berkshire, Broome, New York, was born 30 Jan 1759 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut. He enlisted three times in the American Revolution. He was the son of Abiel b. 1710, a descendant of James LEONARD the Iron Master. There was only one boy in his home under age 10 in 1810, and that appears to be his son Chester, born 1805. Asa had 13 children born between 1783 and 1807. His family was counted on the census in Berkshire, Broome County, New York in 1810 and 1820.

Asa’s son Chester married Susan Maria WILSON in 1826 and had at least three children before he died in 1841. Chester’s one known son was named Charles Frederick LEONARD b. 2 Apr 1829 in Newark Valley, Tioga Co., who lived past 1880. He married Sarah Maria SEARLES and had at least four children including one son, Chester, who was born abt. 1853 and died in 1860 at age 7, and three daughters, Mary, Ida, and Susan. Notice, Asa had at least two grandsons named Charles, both born abt. 1830, and one born in 1825.
