Charles S. LEONARD (1831-1905), the silk manufacturer of Syracuse who married Sarah E. WOOD (1836-1913) on 13 Jan 1857 and had only one known daughter, Hattie. Charles was born Aug 1831 in Skaneateles (formed from Marcellus in 1830), the son of Samuel Hall Leonard (1798-1858) and Maria Austin (1800-1839), and the grandson of Joseph M. LEONARD and Abigail HALL. They were descendants of Solomon LEONARD of Bridgewater. Charles was a merchant in the Silk Business bef. 1855 and cloak & suit business aft. 1855. In 1860 he was found in New York, Ward 21; Dist. 5. Charles (33), Sarah (27), and Harriet (1). In 1870, 1880, and 1900 the family was counted on the census in Syracuse. Onondaga, New York. Charles died 25 Mar 1905 in Syracuse.

Note: Charles LEONARD (1809-1896), Overseer of the Poor, who also lived and was prominent in Syracuse, was his uncle.
