John Jacob Leonard (also called Jacob Leonard and better known as "Monsier Leonard") of Auburn, Cayuga, New York in 1840 with a household of 8 people. He was born in Paris, France in 1796. He was a confectioner, said to be the best in the state of New York. His name is alternatively written “Mons. Leonard”. He married Eliza BALLOU (1809-1898) and had Charles J. who was born 1832-1833 and died 1881 in Philadelphia, Cornelia b. abt. 1835, Eliza (1840-1903), Hannah b. 1844, and Nancy (1846-1924). He was in Auburn in 1840 and 1850.  In 1850: Jacob 52  (confectioner), Eliza 42, Cornelia 15, Eliza 12, Hannah 7, Nancy 5. Mons. John Jacob died 3 May 1859 in Auburn and is buried at Fort Hill Cemetery.
