John Abbot was a Second Lieutenant in Capt. Oliver Bates's Company of Militia, Col. James Prescott's Regiment, in Westford, Massachusetts.

The men of Westford didn't reach Concord in time to engage, but pursued the British so closely as to deserve special mention.
