From the time of America's fight for independence from Britain 243 years ago to now, American has seen only about 109 years of peace.
The time-line shown here illustrates the frequency of America's wars and the table shown below shows the number of soldiers who rose to the call of duty (about 42 million in wartime), as well as the number of casualties and those wounded in each war. As of 2010, there were close to 17 million War Veterans still living. This data is published by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs.
