George Robinson's naturalization

George Robinson was born on July 16, 1839, in Manchester, Lancashire, England. It was the second year of the reign of Queen Victoria's rule and the beginning of the Victorian era and the second industrial revolution.

In May of 1872, at the age of 32, George sailed to America with his wife and children. After establishing himself at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was able to apply for citizenship. He renounced his allegiance to the Queen and became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America on September 19, 1884, at Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. A copy of the certificate has been preserved by the family, shown here:
