Ira S. Brooks was the father of Mary J. Brooks, wife of Royal John Shirley. Ira was a soldier of the Civil War, in Company F 76th New York Infantry. He filed for a pension as an invalid in 1863 and his widow, Amy, filed a claim for his pension in 1878.
